Hairy Bikers’ Focaccia Bread is a homemade version of the traditional Italian flatbread. It is made with simple ingredients like flour, yeast, olive oil, water, and salt. The dough is allowed to rise before being pressed into a tray and baked until golden.
Strong bread flour (500 g) – Bread flour helps create the airy texture typical of focaccia.
Instant yeast (7 g) – Helps the dough rise and develop structure.
Warm water (325 ml) – Activates the yeast and hydrates the dough.
Olive oil (4 tablespoons) – Adds flavor and softness to the bread.
Salt (1½ teaspoons) – Enhances the flavor of the dough.
Sea salt flakes (for topping) – Adds a crisp, savory finish.
Fresh rosemary (1 tablespoon, chopped) – Classic focaccia herb topping.
Optional garlic slices – Adds aromatic flavor.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, yeast, and salt.
Gradually pour in the warm water and two tablespoons of olive oil while mixing. Stir until the dough begins to come together.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a clean cloth.
Leave it in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until the dough doubles in size.
Transfer the risen dough to a lightly oiled baking tray.
Gently stretch and press the dough so it fills the tray evenly.
Using your fingertips, press small dimples across the surface of the dough.
Drizzle the remaining olive oil over the dough so it settles into the dimples.
Sprinkle rosemary, sea salt flakes, and optional garlic slices evenly over the dough.
Cover the tray lightly and let the dough rest for about 20 minutes. This helps the bread become lighter.
Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
Bake the focaccia for 20–25 minutes until golden brown on top.
Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before slicing.
Serve warm with olive oil, soups, or salads.
